Library
An extensive selection of books are also available for you to enjoy during your stay with a special focus on our own literary heroes Mary Lavin, JP Dunleavy and of course Jonathan Swift all of whom spent some of their lives nearby. In fact one of Mary Lavin’s best known books Tales From Bective Bridge is a collection of ten short stories concerning rural Ireland and its populace. The bridge of the title, Bective Bridge, lies a short walk from Balsoon Lodge and is close to what was her home, Abbey Farm, near Bective Abbey.
Many other authors are also available with a particular focus on our great modern Irish writers and many international favourites.
Garden
The Lodge has its own private garden for you to enjoy. Our guests are also welcome to wander through our small meadow which has been mown with bespoke walkways to facilitate a gentle evening stroll or indeed can be enjoyed throughout the day. As we have a minimum mow policy to protect our insect life, the meadow will grow wild over time.
Bathroom
The Lodge has a shower room with a large rainfall shower seeped in light from the skylight above.
The walls feature traditional wainscoting on three walls and surround mirror on two. There is a ceramic pedestal sink with stone tiles on the floor and shower walls.
Tennis Court
Hidden behind Balsoon Lodge guests will find a full sized tennis court for which rackets and tennis balls are provided. The court is fitted with flood lights so you can take on any daring opponent morning, noon or night!
